Anime tchatchki: All that you must leave behind...
Winner of the Oscar for Best Animated Short in 1989, "Balance" is stark and disturbing; and yet for vague thematic reasons called to mind the comedy "The God's Must Be Crazy". Created by GHK Kassel/HBK Hamburg, the short was directed by Christoph and Wolfgang Lauenstein. It employs no music nor voices, just raw imagery and sound effects, yet evokes a successful commentary on the eternal conflict between the desires of the individual and the needs of the collective.
